6.Attending fashion shows and reviewing fashion magazines and manuals to collect information on new fashion trends and preferences of the consumer.

There are many types of designs that are worked upon by fashion designers. Let us look at some of the more prominent areas fashion:

1.High street fashion:

Most of the fashion designers work under high street fashion, especially in Europe or East Asia. The design process is influenced by celebrity catwalks and seasonal trends.


It is also known as ready-to-wear. These kind of collections are produced in a small scale by established designers and fashion start-ups.

3.Haute couture:

This kind of collection is specifically designed for celebrities and fashion events. Also, it requires quite a lot of time to produce one-off garments which are often not practical to wear. Fashion Designers usually create this kind of designs to endorse the brand.


How can one become a qualified Fashion Designer in India?


One can complete diploma, graduate and post graduate courses in fashion designing to become a fashion designer. The minimum qualification for the UG courses in fashion designing a higher secondary education with a minimum of 50% marks. One can opt for a diploma in fashion designing for a start. Also, there are many short duration programmes in fashion designing such as:

1.Computer Aided and Fashion Designing- 6 Months

2.Fashion Illustration- 2 Months

3.Certificate in Fashion Design- 1 Year

4.Fashion Draping- 2 Months

5.Fashion Illustration & Design- 3 Months

6.Pattern Making & Garment construction- 2 Months

Manish Malhotra is an Indian fashion designer who is well-known for his work in the Bollywood movie industry. At the age of 25, he entered into the fashion world as a costume designer for the movie ‘Swarg’ in 1990. In 1995, he won a Filmfare Award for the movie ‘Rangeela’.

He launched his label called ‘Manish Malhotra’ in 2005. In 2014, his label marked a turnover of 1 Billion INR. He has styled numerous celebrities and his work on a traditional outfit for the pop star “Michael Jackson” was quite popular. Also, he was the man behind the jersey design of the IPL team, Kolkata Knight Riders.
