Rocks And Minerals

When you play outside your home on the ground you would have seen different natural objects that make up the ground, like sand, mud, pebbles, different types of stones etc. They all are made of minerals.

Our planet Earth is rich with different types of minerals. Let's understand more about the types of rocks, conservation of fossil fuels, introduction to minerals, etc.

Types of rocks:

There are different types of rocks such as igneous rocks, sedimentary rocks and metamorphic rocks.

The differences among them have to do with how they are formed.

  • Sedimentary rocks are formed from particles of sand, shells, pebbles, and other fragments of material. Together, all these particles are called sediments. Example: sandstone, siltstone,

  • A metamorphic rock is a type of rock which has been changed by extreme heat and pressure. Example: slate, marble.

  • Igneous rocks are formed through the cooling and solidification of magma or lava. These rocks can be identified by their textures, mineral content, and color.

Minerals are the building blocks of rocks. They are non-living, solid, and, like all matter, are made of atoms of elements. There are many different types of minerals and each type is made of particular groups of atoms.

Conservation of fossil fuels:

Fossil fuels burn in the presence of oxygen releasing energy and carbon dioxide.

Thus burning and consuming more and more fossil fuels is dangerous to our planet as it disturbs the gaseous balance and makes air polluted, more usage of fossil fuels decreases the amount of oxygen and increases the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Thus, this results in global warming and air pollution.
