If our body, if not managed properly or, if the functions of the body are not proper, we develop diseases and problems in carrying out our work .

Example - If we are practicing any inappropriate movement, take a fall etc., our bones may get damaged. The food we eat, daily activities, thoughts and lifestyle we perform affects our body’s performance and may lead health problems.

Same way, if our body and surroundings are not kept clean we may develop infections, skin issues, foul odour etc, thus hygiene is also an essential aspect of healthy body.

According to the World Health Organization, health can be defined as a state of complete physical, mental and social well being of the human body. In other words, a person is said to be physically healthy, if she or he has no physical deformities and all body functions are working properly. 

Personal hygiene habits such as washing your hands and brushing and flossing your teeth will help keep bacteria, viruses, and illnesses away.

Personal Hygiene and Healthy Habits


When we  want to minimize the risk of infection and also enhance our overall health, the following personal hygiene habits are important:

  • Take a bath regularly. Wash your body and your hair often.
  • Brush and floss.  Brush your teeth twice a day and floss daily. Brushing minimizes the accumulation of bacteria in your mouth, which can cause tooth decay and gum disease. Brushing also helps us remove the food particles that may get stuck to our teeth and the gaps between teeth.
  • Wash your hands with soap and water. Washing hands before preparing or eating food, after going to the bathroom, after coughing or sneezing helps in preventing the spread of bacteria and viruses.
