Data is a collection of facts, such as numbers, words, measurements, observations or even just descriptions of things.

Data can be classified as follows.

1) Quantitative - numerical information.

2) Qualitative - descriptive information

  • Discrete - can only take certain values (counted)
  • Continuous - can take any value (measured)

Example: We know that a cat has 4 legs and 2 eyes. We count the data here, hence it is discrete.

Whereas when measuring the height and weight of a person, we say he is 20.2 kg and 2 feet and 4 inches tall. So it is continuous data.
