Unitary Method

The method in which first we find the value of one unit and then the value of required number of units is known as Unitary Method.

Demonstration:

Example:

A Car travels 80 km in 4 hours. Find the distance covered by the car in 1 hour.

Solution:

Distance covered in 4 hours = 80

Therefore distance covered in 1 hour = 80 /4

Thus, the  car covers 20 km in1 hour.

Example :

If the cost of 6 cans of juice is Rs. 210, then what will be the cost of 4 cans of juice?

Solution :

Cost of 6 cans of juice = Rs. 210

Therefore, cost of one can of juice = 210 6 = Rs. 35

 Therefore, cost of 4 cans of juice = Rs. 35 × 4 = Rs. 140.

Thus, cost of 4 cans of juice is Rs. 140.
