Reciprocal Of A Fraction
A reciprocal of a fraction is obtained by inverting it upside down.
While dividing a whole number by a fraction, we multiply the whole number with the reciprocal of that fraction.
Example: 2/(4/6)= 2 x (6/4)=6/2 = 3
While dividing a fraction by a whole number we multiply the fraction by the reciprocal of the whole number. For example.
Example: ( 4/3 ) / 7= (4/3) x (1/7) = 4/21
While dividing one fraction by another fraction, we multiply the first fraction by the reciprocal of the other.
Example: (2/3) /(5/8)= (2/3)x (8/5)= 16/15
Reciprocal of a Mixed Fraction
To find the reciprocal of a Mixed Fraction, we must first convert it to an Improper Fraction, and then turn it upside down.
Example: Reciprocal of 2 1/3 (two and one-third)?
1. Convert it to an improper fraction: 2 1/3= 6/3 + 1/3 = 7/ 3
2. Turn it upside down: 3/7
The Answer is: 3/7
