# Converting Fractions and Decimals into Percentage and Vice-versa

To convert a Percent to a Fraction follow these steps:

Step 1: Write down the percent like this: percent/100

Step 2: If the percent is not a whole number, then multiply both top and bottom by 10 for every number after the decimal point. (For example, if there is one number after the decimal, then use 10, if there are two then use 100, etc.)

Step 3: Simplify (or reduce) the fraction

DEMONSTRATION:

Convert 11% to a fraction

11\100

Answer: 11\100 ( this fraction cannot be simplifies further)

To convert a Fraction to a Percent follow these steps:

1.Divide the top of the fraction by the bottom, 2.Then multiply the result by 100 and round off the answer

Convert 7/9 into percent

7 ÷ 9 = 0.77

Then multiply by 100 and answer is: 77%

Converting From Percent to Decimal

Percent means "per 100", so 50% means 50 per 100, or simply 50/100

When we divide 50 by 100 we get 0.5 (a decimal number).

So, to convert from percent to decimal: divide by 100, and remove the "%" sign.

DEMONSTRATION:

Convert 6.5% to decimal

Move the decimal point two places to the left: 6.5 → 0.65 → 0.065

(Note how we inserted an extra "0" as needed)

Converting From Decimal to Percent

"Percent" means "per 100" so:

Multiply the Decimal Number by 100, and put the "%" sign so people know it is per 100.

DEMONSTRATION:

Convert 0.125 to percent

Multiply 0.125 by 100:

0.125 × 100 = 12.5

Put the percent sign:

0.125 × 100 = 12.5%
